Our CTIO, Scott Stonham, was the keynote speaker, talking about his experience at Reading University studying Cybernetics and Control engineering, and how many of the technologies he studied then are becoming market realities today.

His presentation outlined the necessity of having to think big and act bold when imagining next generation technologies. He gave example use cases in AI, IoT and 5G to show the amazing opportunities for these technologies today, hinting about the future developments in these areas, as well as concerns about privacy from realtime satellite video, shoe-tracking and face recognition.

Familiar faces

It was nice to see so many familiar faces from local industry and as an added bonus, one of his professors from 23 years ago was also attending the event. It was great to exchange stories with Professor Richard Mitchell.

Richard Mitchell from the Cybernetics department at Reading University and a showcase of his student’s Virtual Reality projects, including one to help overcome phobias!
Immersive Computer Labs and their VR demonstrations, including applications for schools and education.
